10 Quotes We Can Trust

taken with nikon d700 105mm macro f/2.8

Happiest Friday sweet friends!

How was your week?  I hope fabulous.

I wanted to pop in and say hello... thank you all for the amazing response to my 'silence' posting. Wow, I so love that I am not alone. I honestly don't have a lot of 'real-life' friends who understand my silence and solitude.  So it's wonderful to know that there are others out there who embrace the silence.

Today I had an email from a beautiful reader, who is going through an incredibly difficult time. I want to dedicate this post to her.

I too know how difficult life can be. And sometimes it's very hard to get out from under the doom and sadness. Believe, me, I know! In fact, I spent almost 2 years of my life, living under sadness, fear and worry.  They were my rulers!  All of the worry, concern, sadness....accomplished nothing. The storm roared on. If I could go back, I'm not sure how I would have handled it.  Maybe no differently.  But in time, eventually, sooner or later, the storm did pass. We made it to the other side.

Looking back, I give thanks for the storm. It lead me to this life. It lead me to photography and to all of you.

The one thing I hope to do differently, when the next storm arises..... Is to stop and try to find something to give thanks for, each and every day. I'm learning this beautiful lesson from Ann Voskamp's book, One Thousand Gifts. Thank you Ann and thank you God. It's easy to have a grateful heart when life is good.  It's much more difficult to do when you are in the midst of a  storm.  'sigh'

Enough said..... Here are

10 quotes we can trust.

  1. 'He who breathes deepest lives most.' Elizabeth Barret Browning
  2. 'No one has ever become poor by giving.' - Anne Frank
  3. 'An artist cannot fail; it is a success to be one.' - Charles Horton Cooley
  4. 'After a storm comes a calm.' - Matthew Henry
  5. 'Face your fears and doubts, and new worlds will open to you.' - Robert Kiyosaki
  6. 'Whether you think you can or think you can't - you are right.' - Henry Ford
  7. 'Serenity is not freedom from the storm, but peace amid the storm.'
  8. 'In the beauty of nature lies the spirit of hope.'
  9. 'Learn to get in touch with the silence within yourself and know that everything in this life has a purpose.' - Elisabeth Kubler-Ross
  10. 'Worry never robs tomorrow of its sorrow, it only saps today of its joy.' - Leo F. Buscaglia

I'd love to continue the list. Share a quote or words of wisdom that we all can trust in the comments below and I will put them together in a follow-up at the bottom of this posting.

I'm still clicking thru the TT link ups.  I'm totally in awe of the beauty you all are sharing!

The Art of Texture class starts next week!  I'd love to have you in class.

I will be back this weekend with your new texture.... I promise.

p.s. I'm over at Shutter Sisters today....sharing a confession. Come say hi.....

Hi Kim,
Your comments today made me think of a sampler my gran had in her house in Scotland many years ago. It must have resonated with me and my sisters as we still often quote it and none of us has seen this sampler for over 50 years.
"It is easy to go on smiling
When life goes by like a song,
But the man worthwhile is the man who can smile
When everything goes dead wrong."

beautiful post kim. sometimes it's just impossible to see the light at the end of the tunnel, even if you know it's there. it's so important to have something all your own to hang on to. i am thankful every day for my art. one of my favorite quotes comes from a character in the book "The Church of the Old Mermaids" written by kim antieau~
"Everyone has a siren song. Something fluid, beautiful, all yours."
We all just need to remember to sing it to ourselves when we need it, i think.
have a wonderful weekend.

Beautiful quotes, all! My fave quote:

"I never stop to wonder why I'm not like other people. The mystery to me is why more people aren't like me."

Beautiful, meaningful quotes Kim.

After many years of living in turmoil I met my current husband who taught me to live in the moment.
A most valuable lesson. I now meditate when things start to "swirl" and it grounds me. I also read
Eckhart Tolle's book, The Power of Now. I read it and re-read it whenever I need to get back on track.

Thanks you once again for another great lesson. Not all lessons are found in Photoshop. lol

Have a fabulous day.

HI Kim
Well I'm no stranger to silence.. nor turmoil in the past.. I grew up in a home filled with turmoil and conflict and like you,.. fear was ever present .. during those years silence was not a friend but a threat.. 'a calm before the storm'.. Thankfully now I find the reverse... and happily escape to my quiet world.

No great words of wisdom for you today.. but something a colleague told me when I was quite young. He didn't explain the meaning.. but it has stuck with me for 30 years... 'When You're By Yourself.. You're On Your Own'.
I guess it means what we need it to mean a the time..

Have a great weekend.. ciao xxxx Julie

Kim, these are all words to live by. I especially love this one by Leo Buscaglia: A single rose can be my garden, a single friend, my world.
It makes me remember that I am important to others too, and to consider that a blessing.

One Thousand Gifts has been recommended by several friends. I think I must get it today. Love the quotes. My quote today is from Mark Twain: Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry and narrow-mindedness." I am off traveling and photographing the world and sending prejudice far, far away. Thanks for all you share.

Storms are tough and we never forget them. They leave their marks on us. They are the scars we carry. I have plenty. But I have found that God wants to turn them into trophies of survival. I will never forget what I learned from each scar. What I need most when I'm in a storm is comfort. I have found that God is the Father of all comfort. When I turn to Him in a storm and ask for His help, I receive it when I experience His presence. God's presence comforts me like no one else can. Only God has actually given me real Peace. Seek Him with all your heart and you will receive His comfort, His presence. Many blessings of God's comfort and help to all who are in the storm. Thanks Kim for sharing your art and your life with us.

Wonderful quotes, and just what I needed. Here's a favorite of mine: "Instructions for living a life. Pay attention. Be astonished. Tell about it." Mary Oliver
