puppy love ramblings

my baby boy, andy

my niece, sophie

hi all! i've been absent for a few days while doing "weekend project" type stuff. this weekend we moved our furniture into brett's old room. i mentioned earlier that he flew the coop. anyhow, we are pulling up the carpet and about 6 other layers of flooring that have been laid down in our room over the last 105+ years that this house has been around. it's the last room in our home that still has carpet. i'm so excited to see it go. to be honest, it's just plain grungy!

so, poor old andy is not impressed. he has slept on our bed in that room for almost 12 1/2 years, and apparently we were supposed to check with him before making such a major decision. he pouted last night - all night long. finally at about 5 am i took him downstairs to go outside (in the pouring rain) so when he came in, i dried him off and he stomped off to the living room, refusing to come back up. i have to carry him upstairs now. his arthritis is bad and his hind end doesn't cooperate very well. he's a good 50 plus pounds. i tell ya, it's a good thing i've been working out, because i need to build up the muscles for hauling my boy up the stairs. he just plain refused to come back up to bed.

we are all creatures of habit. change is often very difficult. i too, like things to stay the same, and it really does feel kind of strange not sleeping in "our" room. andy is no different "why mess with a good thing" is his motto. i'm hoping things go better tonight. he's laying at my feet right now, snoring, so that's a good sign. but after i woke up and came to life this morning, i thought how funny his little tantrum was. he's so completely set in his ways.

oh and just another pet funny i must share about sophie (see her hilarious sitting position above)
tonight i took sophie and andy on the trail. it runs along a road that takes people to the soccer park. anyhow, sophie has a thing about cars. and we happened to be walking along side that road, just when the girls were done soccer practice. and sophie happened to yank on the leash so hard that i dropped it, and she took off to the cars. i am running after her, screaming "sophie"and she is not listening at all! as i am screaming her name, i am waving at the cars to stop. well, she stopped traffic! about 6 cars in a row. omgoodness what a BRAT! i am like smiling and waving at the people as i grab her leash, and the one lady is like "she sure is beautiful though" haha....bad and beautiful! I remember when andy was 7 months. he was absolutely crazy full of life and trouble. now he just looks at sophie and i swear sometimes, he actually shakes his head. :)

i can't imagine life without andy (and sophie now too). sadly my baby andy is running short of days. i keep thanking God for each new day he allows us. a few weeks ago we had made the decision it was time to let him go. it was a friday and we were going to take him to the vet on monday. well, saturday came and he perked right up. he had lost the use of his back leg was panting heavily, it was so sad. and then as if he knew, he started using his leg again and just perking up. so we are still here... one day at a time.... enjoying his cranky, yet so funny ways.

here's to our pets...their innocence, honesty and love is so precious.

Our poor little Jackie did the same thing and she was unable to use her back legs at all. We did do laser treatments on her and they did work for a while...be have been so sad without her....I feel for you. Enjoy Andy while you can. Dianntha

Hi Dianntha
i'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your Jackie.... it's so hard watching them suffer, but so hard to be without them. :( sigh. andy had cancer surgery almost 2 years ago, and they said it would give him 3 - 6 months of quality life. now, almost 2 years later he is still holding on. but i know the days are running short. and the thoughts of losing him are just so hard. if only they could stay with us longer. :( sigh....

take care, Kim

We had to put our 12 year old akita,Tasha, down two years ago from the same thing. Her back legs got so bad she couldn't even stand. It was so sad to watch her.We knew it was time to put her out of her misery. It was very hard for my DH.She was his dog and they were very close.Akitas only have a life span of 7-8 years and she lived 12 so I know we gave her a good life.
Sophie is beautiful but sounds like a real stinker. We have one like that. She def has a mind of her own.
That's funny about Andy shaking his head.Made me laugh.:0)Sherri

hi sherri
that's amazing that tasha stayed with you so long. so special! the time with them, slips by so quickly. it truly does seem like just yesterday i picked andy up and brought him home. sigh.

and yes sophie is quite the girl. they are so clueless as puppies, but in other ways so smart. she lives in a happy world, where nothing can go wrong... haha... and andy just can't grasp that concept anymore. lol.... too funny. :) poor guy! they are all so individual and unique. such a beautiful thing....

take care....Kim
