One Little Word Can Change Your Life

 Hello my sweet friends...

Oh my, how crazy ... we are almost half way thru December....and 2010 is soon to be a memory....  Wow! What a year this has been!

I just have to share my experience with choosing one little word to manifest the most incredible year of my life!!  Honestly... it's good stuff.... talk about the power behind a word!  I still can’t quite wrap my mind around it all!

‘sigh’... of true gratitude....

Grab a cup of tea...this will take a few... :)  Warning:  There's a whole lotta linkage in this post!

2010 - My Year to Soar......

2010 was a turning point in a tragic part of our life...  2009 was let’s just say.... HELL...along with 2008 and 2007.....  Don’t get me wrong...there were some hilights and blessings in those years... But they were incredibly difficult!!  You can read my summary of 2009 here.... and my original post about 2010 and my one little word ‘SOAR’ here.

So anyhow, for 2010 I chose the word Soar....  and wow, did my life take flight!!  When I decided on SOAR... I had no idea where it would take me!  In fact I really didn’t even know what soaring may involve....  But I was completely and utterly sure SOAR was my word.

So many incredible things happened in my life in 2010.  Here’s just a few:

  • Watched my son make it thru a dark and difficult time and graduate from high school.
  • Watched my oldest mature and grow into a very responsible, hard working young man.
  • Truly comprehended how blessed I am to have a husband who supports every single crazy idea I have ever had, while faithfully going off to his secure job and working his butt off.
  • Became a crazy obsessed blogger and grew a wonderful tribe (close to 5000 people now) of beautifully inspired peeps... who lift me up daily.
  • Created a full-time business from my new found passion - photography and blogging.
  • Started designing my very own line of Artful Textures
  • Developed and launched 4 different eCourses.
  • Purchased my Nikon dream camera (just last month)
  • Bought a 27” iMac.... something i first fell in love with while watching the movie, The Devil Wears Prada and said right then, someday I will have one. Thank you sweet peeps for buying my I Need an iMac Pack.  :)
  • Found the light at the end of a dark tunnel of financial hardship after  years of stress and worry.
  • Created the Photoshop Recipe Book digital package
  • Founded The Inspiration Studio and connected with a group of amazing inspirers.
  • Opened The Test Kitchen.
  • Had 3 of my blogs featured in my favorite publication, Artful Blogging as well as a few of my images featured in Somerset Life
  • Connected with Kindred Spirits around the globe
  • Realized, I mean truly realized....anything is possible

I could go fact I do believe there is a more in depth post to come on all of this.  But I will stop for now.

I only tell you this.... to share my story and hopefully inspire you to believe... truly, truly believe that anything is possible...  In the darkest of storms there is a a light....believe me...I know...

So that is why... I must pick the perfect one little word for 2011.

I have been considering a few..... momentum, gratitude, possibilities, fearless, freedom, imagine, manifest, passion, create.

There is one word that I keep coming back to....  in this list..... can you guess, which it is?

I’m not going to commit quite yet.... But I’m thinking about it daily.

How bout you?  Are you going to pick a word for 2011?  If so, I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Now...Not to worry....I haven't's Friday....  and I have a sweet little freebie for you all.

... thanks for the gorgeous texture Kim. What an incredible one year you have had. I couldn't think of any word to aspire to this year, but I realized the word that describes my life. It is GRATEFUL. I am increasingly grateful for all the blessings in my life. Perhaps I will design a kit to show that. .... hmmm, a good idea.

Thanks for this post Kim. I've been mulling over my list of words for 2011 but haven't narrowed in on anything yet. I find this practice of picking a word to be a very powerful experience and have been doing so since 2008 (LIVE) after a horrific tradgedy affected our little world. 2009 (OPEN) was difficult but I kept my word in mind and remained open to whatever came my way and made it through. For 2010 I chose the word "ENCOURAGE" and I have made a concerted effort to do so to all those who crossed my path. It's been a blessing actually to see how people blossom with just a little bit of encouragement. I don't know about you, but through this practice of choosing a word for the year I also have become aware of when that particular word is absent in a life, whether it be mine or someone elses. How closed I was at different times, or how discouraging some people can be. Anyway, I'm happy for your "soaring" this year...that's so powerful...and I am encouraged by your life and your word. I may chose it for myself this year! (and as always, thank you for the beautiful textures and for sharing your world.)

December 10, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterSteph

Thank you for sharing your story, and your lovely texture..I have a file just on Kim's textures now and I love them..I think I just might use your word soar.. for 2011 will be heaven and I hope to soar with my lifts my heart and expresses more than my words can..Here's to looking down the rabbit hole with all of you..

December 10, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterSuzanne

Kim, I love your blog and all the wonderful textures you have shared with us! I'm so happy for you and your family and hope you continue in your successful journey. That word may be "envious" for me! And for you - "inspiring".
Don't you just love it when an idea actually turns out to be great?? Keep up the good work, and I will continue to be inspired by your great stuff!!

December 10, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterJamie

My word for 2011 is "Aspire" I can Aspire to any heights, challenges, or goals I choose! One year ago, I couldnt figure out one feature on photoshop Elements, let alone, regular photoshop. Now I use the program daily and LOVE it, mostly thanks to you! You have been and inspiratin to me, and I am thankful for you! So thankful! What a blessed year this has been, as I have learned so much in my photography, ability to edit photos, I started a new job (my dream job) and have several new family members, with more on the way! Wow, 2010 has been great for me, and I look forward to 2011!! Thank you Kim for EVERYTHING!

A truly inspiring post. You certainly picked the right word for this year, because you indeed soared! I wrote a couple of times this week about my one little word for this year too. I have yet to pick a word for 2011, but I feel like it's going to be a really great year, so I have a few prospective words on the list that are full of optimism.

December 10, 2010 | Unregistered Commenternatalyn

Thank you for this post. It has made the 'voice on the video' a real person.
A real person with the gift to WOW her world and other people's. Maybe you should consider the word 'inspire"?

Your post reminded me of this little poem.
"Come to the edge."
"We can't. We're afraid."
"Come to the edge."
"We can't. We will fall!"
"Come to the edge."
And they came.
And he pushed them.
And they flew.

My "One Little Word" this year is Energy....and maybe I should choose Continuance for 2011.....but one little word is whirling in my head and it's" Evolving".... now that I have the energy I should evolve myself into what I really would like to become as a person! Now that you have soared...and you know that everything is possible I think your word fearlessness would be perfect for you in 2011! Have a nice weekend.

Oh my dear friend...
I loved this post for a couple of reasons...first and foremost, I got a bit caught up with you...and I'm just blessed beyond belief :) hearing about your year.
Second...I've been mulling over my 1 little word too. Maybe you remember my 2010 word was friendship...
Do you know that I lost my 1 face to face friend this year? She and I had been like sisters for 19 years, yet in the past 5 years we'd be growing in very different directions. We didn't connect any more, didn't have any words ...there was just nothing. I finally had the nerve in March to just let go. There was immediate relief but I'm still mourning what once was...
And now, no kidding, I have not 1 face to face friend. I'm a little dazed with the whole endeavor. Still processing.
But I have many friends in the big beautiful blog-world and I'm more than thankful for that.
Say a prayer for me Kim that I will know my one little word...I need to know.

December 11, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterRobin

Thanks for the beautiful texture. I have been doing the One Little Word since Ali started it in 2007. I am excited about her year-long class over at Big Picture Classes that will be guiding people through One Little Word and making it more really in their everyday life (

December 11, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterErika

It sounds like your year, while bumpy, was successful in many of the ways that count. Kudos to you and your family! And of course, thanks for those textures...I'm creating whole new things!
