Get Out of Your Own Way - Just Start

image subtly textured with today's START texture.

What are you waiting for?

More time?

More money?

More confidence?

Now's the time, my friends.....

What are you considering?

What are you talking about doing?

What are you wanting to do....deep down in your soul?

Tell me, what's holding you back?

I'd be willing to guess it's you...standing right in front of you!!

Today I propose something simple.... Just Start.

Start your blog, Start your writing, Start your art, Start your healthier lifestyle.

wanna take a course? read a book? learn to paint? learn to draw? learn to cook? learn to dance?

if you really want it... make it happen!

Wow...folks....where did that come from?

Perhaps it was a conversation with a sweet and amazing friend I had today....

as I was babbling on....she said.... Okay already.... I get it....  I need to just Start....

and although I wasn't really saying it directly to her.... i was totally on board with her STARTING...cause i so know she's going to ROCK IT!  And why not sooner, than later?

Wanna give yourself the best gift ever this holiday season?

Here's to new beginnings....

I am going to start something right along with you.

For me it's drinking water...lots of it!! Cleansing this body....

I will keep you posted.

Here's a tiny little something from Julia Cameron's book - The Artist Way....

'No matter what your age or your life path, whether making art is your career or your hobby or your dream, it is not too late or too egotistical or too selfish or too silly to work on your creativity.

B E A U T I F U L ........ RIGHT?

Enough said....

However... I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments or feel free to email me.

and by the way... LOVIN' the I am an Artist comments..... seriously beautifully raw and honest sharing.....

I'm also incredibly touched by your beautiful emails.

'sigh' of gratitude....

Today's freebie texture is called START.

Feel free to download it HERE.  Wanna get in on some fab freebies?

Join my texture lovin' list HERE.

why am i posting the link here rather than emailing it to the listers?  Holiday laziness....  I will get back to the usual routine in the New Year... :)

Shameless plugs.....

Wanna rock photoshop?  START here.

Wanna rock textures?  START here.

Budget a little tight?  START here or here.

xxo, kim

You are so right. I am always full of excuses. So many things I would love to learn to do. I'm not sure why it takes me so long to jump in. Fear of failure perhaps? I will work on that. And I will drink more water right along with you. We could all use a good cleansing.

Thanks so much for another wonderful texture. :)

Wow, did that hit home. It is what I have been thinking about and telling myself all week. I think you must have a link to my brain because you seem to have the words to say that I have been trying to find. Thank you Kim, you are an inspiration, not only as an artist but as a woman. Pat

Thank you for this wonderful texture, it looks great! Your words are true, quite often we only have ourselves holding us up don't we? Merry Christmas.

WOW! Did I ever need that pep talk this morning. Thanks Kim, and for the gorgeous texture too. I love, love, love Julia Cameron's books - The Artist Way being my favorite. Now I'm off to a good start . . . Have a super weekend! ♥

Thanks for another great texture and a thought-provoking post, Kim. I've been choosing a word for each year for several years now, and I've already picked one for 2011. It's FINISH. Just the opposite of START it seems, but once I reflected on it, not so much. I've started a lot of things in the last three or four years that are unfinished; big scrapbook projects, The Test Kitchen (I belong, but rarely make it over there), online courses . . . For some of these intimidation, not being sure of what I can do, has kept me from finishing, so START isn't really off the mark after all. After all, one needs to START in order to FINISH!!!

I had a friend tell me (in regards to having an art-making day at the studio) that "sometimes you just need to show up"....every time I just show up, get my materials together and place my hands in the middle of it all I gain momentum. I couldn't agree more that just STARTING is the best thing we can do for the cultivation of our dreams.

This is the year of sending in proposals and articles....I am committed to a date and subject matter....I am trying to step out of my own way! ;)

Happy New Year (new water quenched year) to you, Kim!

I agree with you Kim! Put one foot in front of the other, start down the path, and before you know it you will end up someplace amazing. I love, love, love the artist's way. I think I need to re-read it...

A GREAT word for 2011 or any year! Thanks for always being such an inspiration.

December 20, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterCarole

This post sounds like it was totally directed to me! It couldn't fit any better! my mind I have reasons for not doing things when actually all those reasons are nothing but excuses!! I let fear take over ....mainly the fear of failure. 2011 definitely needs to be the year I START!!! Start facing those fears and not let them control me!! Thanks, Kim! I am going to START!!

December 20, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterDena

Kim, you and your blog have been instrumental in helping me "START" my photography business this year. Thank you!!!
here is a link to a photo I recently edited using the "Start" texture. Thought you might like to see it.

Found this from Daily Brainstorm, great site, great texture. :)

I so agree with everything you said. I've come back to this and think i'd like to post it on my Facebook page and a photo group I have. I wish you well and hope everything went well yesterday with Ben. I've been taking care of large and small animals all my life and there is no feeling like the one where you don't know how things will turn out and your essentially powerless to change that.....hugs.

This is a powerful message! I put off a lot of things because I have no time, and I know that I waste a lot of time, that there is time when I could be doing something and I don't! I also have to remind myself that I don't have to have create that one masterpiece each time I pick up a brush. Reminding myself to play with paints and paper, and just do it. Kind of like stretching before working out!

Wonderfully encouraging post, Kim :) I used your "Start" texture (along with "Canvas Magic" on these two photos I took yesterday (8/5). In the firstm photo, I also used one of my own digital textures - really like how it complemented the photo and other textures.

Thank you, Kim, for this encouraging, motivating post. I, too, enjoy Julia Cameron's The Artist's Way. My copy of this book is full of little bookmarks. Quite often I go back and reread portions of it, to fire myself up once more. This post of yours reminds me of a poem I found one time. I copied it down, I like it so much. It's titled, "Start Where You Stand".

Starting is what it's all about, certainly. I guess we all can come up with reasons not to begin, but we only discourage ourselves when we allow the negative reasons to hold us back.

Onward, all. :)) :))

And, Kim, thank you for these lovely textures you so kindly share with us.

Kim, thanks for your thought for today, "Just start". It reminds me of a poem I once read (and copied down).
The title: Start Where You Stand. The gist of it: speaking to someone who was giving all sorts of reasons why not to start---especially seemed to be thinking the conditions of life, right then, just weren't right for what should be done. The author ran through all the 'reasons', finishing with, "start where you stand."

I know this is an old post, but Thank You!! You are right!!! I had a blog, deactivated it, have another one, don't know what to do or where to start. But I will! I just signed up for a class of yours, that is one start! Looking at your beautiful photos has inspired me to take my photography to a different level. Thank you Kim!!!

I received my first credit loans when I was a teenager and it supported my business very much. However, I require the auto loan once again.
