A New Project - 30 Textures in 30 Days

Hello my friends

How are you?

OH my gosh it's cold here this week!!  aaaaaaack.... I'm trying really hard not to whine about it!  But wowzer... it's INSANE.

So, I don't have any textures to sell you this week...or next week...or the week after that...or the week after that....

I am on a mission to create 30 textures in 30 days!!

And when they are all complete, well tested and ready....  I will package them into a beautiful collection of 30 plus hand made textures.

So save your coffee money, my friends... You are going to NEED this set. :)

My hope is to create a collection of textures that will fill all your texture needs...  I'm super pumped about it.

So starting today I will begin my 30 textures in 30 days journey... and share little snippets along the way....  :)

I'm looking for cheerleaders..  cause I know this won't be easy...making art every day for 30 days...  amongst the rest of life's 'stuff'....

But I am up for the challenge... I'm pumped!

I'd love to hear what you want 'more' of... what your texture needs may be?  Your input would be most appreciated....

Okay so with that said.. I must roll up my sleeves.

Before i go... it's not too late to join my Art of Texture - The Secrets Revealed eCourse.  It starts next week!

Hint, hint.. nudge, nudge... :)

Okie doke... please share your input in the comments... pretty please...even if you could share a few of your favs...  what you want more of...  good stuff like that....

Here's to a beautiful day my sweet friends...

Oh!! I am looking forward to this one!! Any idea how much you are going to charge for this collection? I need to start saving, since I told The Man that I would pay for my photography stuff all by myself this year.

What a fabulous idea, way to go Kim! Think of all the wonderful textures you'll come up with. Great way to motivate yourself. I can't wait to see them.

I'm impressed --- 30 in 30 days! We are getting ready to move out of our present house to a 55 acre farm (heavenly!), so some of my art supplies are packed away and ready to move into my new studio space there. But you've inspired me to keep creating while we prepare. If you can do 30 textures in 30 days, I can certainly enjoy making nifty stuff here and not wait till we've moved. (I think I hear my 3 little art dolls calling me now...) Have a great day - how could it be otherwise? - and Happy Texture Making. 8-)

Ohmigosh, I'm so excited! I love texture packs!

Having 30 projects to do in 30 days isn't easy (I've done it), but you're going to be a rockstar with it, I just know. As far as a wishlist, I'm feeling scratchy textures right now. One or two might be awesome. I'm also in love with the edges textures you do - maybe more frames or edges?

Good luck Kim!

yay! new scrumptious textures on the way
You'll rock this challenge you've set for yourself, I know it.
I have been looking for a texture that is neutral in color, but gives the texture of linen and/or canvas to the entire photo. You have one that is my go to for that, Chalk and Scratch, but I'd like one a bit more defined without the print. And I am also lovin' textures that I see with beautiful old handwriting, or vintage print. I could think of a few more, but I'll stop there.
Can't wait to see the set!

Wonderful idea, Kim... and I can imagine that you'll need lots of prayers to go along.
Ideas: I really liked those lovely swirls on your last "Swirls" texture. I would love to see more of that kind and maybe with some light pastel shades. More music sheets, handwriting and maybe some heart shape prints would be great also. Let your imagination soar... God bless you and million thanks for all of your efforts.

Oh, and yes... more vintage for sure! Pleeease! :)

Hi Kim,

Looking forward to seeing your new creations. I do have a question/request. I have some favorite spring shots with lots of green leaves or green grass, etc. The thing is is that I can't find a texture or blending mode that works with the lush green backdrops. Do you have any samples or suggestions?

February 2, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJess

What an exciting project and challenge! I'm sure they will be lovely. Makes me anxious for a plug-in to come out so I can add textures in Aperture. They say that's coming soon. Until then, I just admire your beautiful textures!

February 2, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterAnna

How exciting! Go Kim!!!

I'd love to see more textures with edges and different colors.

February 2, 2011 | Unregistered Commenterbek

You are an amazing artist and whatever you come up with will be fabulous. Can't wait to see it. I would love something that has the texture of an oil painting, like palette knife painting. Pat

February 2, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterPat Mark do we appreciate? Kim!! 30 textures in 30 are awesome! I don't have any suggestions, though, because it's kind of hard to improve perfection:) And that's what all your textures are...perfect!

February 2, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterLeah C

Oh goody!!! A new texture pack!! Happy Dance!!

Some of my favorite textures have been mustard seed, elephant, buttermilk (?), winter window, grey day series, and the vintage papers, I think vintage paper 2 is a fave...kind of a lattice look with a pattern in the lattice.

I'm counting down the days!! :) :)

p.s. if you need an texture know where I am!! :) :)

I'm telling everyone about your textures in my next blog post. Published on Thursday.

Give me a K, give me an I, give me an M, what's it spell?....TEXTURES! Yay Kim!
I am so pumped to see the end result, can't wait!
My favorite all-time texture of yours is vignette. I end up using it on almost every photo in one way or another. But there are so many that I love it is seriously hard to choose. Love the ones with frames as well...
Goooooooo Kim!

P.S. stay warm!

February 2, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterKelly

Wow, what a great project Kim! I'm so looking forward to see your finished project! As for a wish... I've never worked with a texture that's mainly in white tones - I don't know if that works at all, but I would be interested... ;-) I'm starting saving (no more coffees at the coffee shop I guess...). Have a great time and ENJOY!

February 2, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterRosie Grey

Ahhh!! I'm so excited for this one! Currently I'm head over heals for your textures with a boarder/ frame around the edges. I loooove them for these yucky winter days (:
Good luck!! (not that you'll need it)

February 2, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterAndrea

I got excited when I saw the music paper....does that mean there will be a music texture? Best of luck on the 30 in 30!

February 2, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterNicole

Kim, this is a wonderful idea and I can't wait to see what magical textures you dream up!

My current favorite elements in textures are:

1) textures with borders;
2) textures with words;
3) textures with swirls;
4) gritty textures.

Singly, or in combination.

Good luck, and have fun!!!

I cannot wait to see what you are going to create - I know it will be BRILLIANT!!

As I've struggled to get back to my normal more productive self this January (drat those winter blahs.) A lyric from a song keeps playing in my head: "I know that it's been hard, and it's been along to coming. Don't give up on me, I'm about to come alive."

I just tell myself I'm almost there, I'm coming alive again - and it seems to help. So (even thought its an almost break-up song) I'm hoping this phrase will play through your head as you work and you'll keep coming alive, one texture after the other. David Nail - I'm About to Come Alive

WOWeee "Yay Kim!" 3 Cheers to you!!
I'm sure you'll have a total blast with this. Good luck!
Inspiration ideas besides your usual artistic masteries? ok here goes:
American Flag, More ferns (!), more inspirational words for grown ups, bicycles, sun spots, tea cups, lace, love letters, more vintage more vintage, flowers, pastels! oh and paw prints for Ben :)
Best of luck!

Yea!!!!! Can you even begin to tell how much we all love you? I hope so!!! You are the BEST at teaching and at textures! Can't wait to see what you have to offer us! Me, of course, I love anything vintage! Thanks for all of your kind encouragement along the way....we all LOVE it! I, too, have been absent for a bit...can't wait to get back to creating again! Sending love to you and Ben and the fellas in your family....

February 2, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterSally

I love all of your textures and buy them whenever I can. I've had really great results with Grey Day, especially the way it creates a frame in the image. More like that would be great, perhaps with torn edges?

Why does 30 textures in 30 days sound so much more daunting to me than a 365 project? I am so impressed that you're taking this on!

Can't wait to see what you create!

February 2, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterMicki

Hi Kim,
It's absolutely freezing here in Green Bay, WI as well. Hopefully you don't have to go out much!
I love your website, your kindness and when you give away textures. I will be rooting for you while you take on 30 textures in 30 days. I hope we'll get to see some of the wonderful things you create along the way. I'm signed up for your eCourse and I'm excited! Thanks for offering it and for having things for free on your site along with the option to purchase. It's really nice. I guess if there is a texture I would like to see it would be something that goes beautifully with childrens photos without being too distracting. Something that would enhance the beauty of children. I have no idea what that would look like but since your the artist, I'll leave that open to your interpretation. Thanks for all that you give away and for being so encouraging to others. I'm so glad I found your site. Good luck and I will check back often to see how you're coming along. Stay warm and all the best to you!

Go Kim go!!!
OMG, this sounds fabulous. I'm looking forward to that! I'm currently taking your Essentials class and I'm fully immersed in using textures. It is so much fun and I love to spruce up my photos this way.

February 2, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterCarola

Wow - well at least you picked the right time of year. This winter has been brutal. I know you can do it. You are built of the right stuff. My favorite textures now have words, love letters, words of encouragement. Also, I would love one that is specifically for dogs.

February 3, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterShelly Loree

I'm looking forward to your always beautiful creations! I especially like the vintage feels and your textures with edges.

February 3, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterRoxanne

I am still around, and hope to get over to the Test Kitchen today, because you do so much for us and I have missed out on a lot already.

Great challenge to create 30 textures in 30 days, I know YOU can do it !!!!!!!!
I like a lot of what others have said, love the scratch textures, the vintage, a soft linen texture would be nice too, I like the soft looks but also like the grungy old stuff too.

Have fun!!!!!

February 3, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterLynn

You can do it! Maybe one that could work with portrait work. Many textures just don't "go" with people. I just used one of yours "all you need is love" for a craft project. I'll share a link to it when I get it up.

February 3, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJIll

rah rah rah !!
you can do this!!
sending you a big warm hug!

February 3, 2011 | Unregistered Commenterelk

Yeah Kim!! what a great way to get through a COLD Canadian February! You will be so busy that it will be March (ahhh Spring) before you know it!! I would love some more white borders and painterly textures :) Thanks for all you do! Love, Margaret

I will be perched on my inbox, waiting for an email from you!

I can't wait!

Go Kim!!

I was just working on a few tulips and thought - maybe textures that work well with flower macros?? I have no idea what that could be... but maybe you have something up your sleeves... Have a great time, Kim!!

February 4, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterRosie Grey

Just another thought: is there a texture you'd recommend for architectural shots (modern buildings)? Or maybe you could create one?? :-)

February 5, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterRosie Grey
Two Blue Tiles
Blue tiles is a texture that was photographed by my and uploaded for your exclusive use. the original images are blue but with the adding of a Hue and Saturation layer in photoshop you can turn it into whatever color you will need. very high quality photographed as a raw file and converted to jpg.
