Before I share my list... a few thoughts on why I love lists like this.....

My Personal Disclaimer......there is no pass or fail.... I may complete the entire list.......half of the list....I may only scratch the surface....Whatever happens.... happens... It's all okay. What will be...will be.

This is simply an exercise in ideas (big and small)... letting it flow from my head to the page.....

What I know for sure..... writing things down...pen to paper.... WORKS..... Time and time again, I've written my intentions.....my dreams......and amazingly so many have come to be......

I don't write a traditional journal.... I simply open a page and let whatevers up there... pour out onto the page.... often...it's in list form.

And so....I begin this new year....with......

My fourteen in 2014 List - (as it flowed from my head)

  1. FAMILY.... more time with our boys... parents.... and extended family.
  2. paint all of our interior white. {inspiration here}
  3. explore more ... near and far-ish while John is off on recovery....take pictures....make films... ENJOY us....
  4. complete outstanding classes (s2f and reopen it) .... create new courses....considering.... mini-sessions in LR and PS, new Art of Texture class, all-LR class, another year of beyond, a photography class (maybe? hmmm), free updated intro-to LR and PS classes, expand TK (name change coming soon).
  5. teach live. (did I really say that?)
  6. start 2 NEW soon-TBA series on this site.... (bursting)
  7. offer regular live 'connects' and collaborate more.
  8. expand the shoppe with more textures.... brushes....and LR presets.
  9. more time to just BE.... soak up the quiet ... the beauty of being.... peacefulness.... health... everyday miracles....cherish this life I love....write more.
  10. meet online friends - in person.
  11. continue letting go of my need to control.....embrace reality..... b r e a t h e.....Have faith.... trust in God.
  12. California friends....with Xanthe.... YES please.
  13. send more snail mail....make more lists.
  14. give MORE......always gratitude.....have faith.

I am in love with all the sharing on Tuesday's post.... the highs and some lows from 2013 touch my heart... Thank you for sharing.... such a blessing....

A Second Give Away Opportunity

Today I invite you to grab another chance at a ONE YEAR membership to the Test Kitchen and one texture collection of your choice...

To enter...simply share your thoughts on 14 in 2014.... What comes to mind for you? What's at the top of your list (even if the list is still in your head)?... Did you make a list.... Yes??...How did it feel? How do you want to 2014 to feel?

Whatever you're moved to share..... You're amongst friends...... :)

I will announce both winners on Friday.....

Here's to a beautiful year... whatever it may hold.....

That's it for now lovelies....Link away ..... Share away.... have fun....

Endless gratitude....forever & always.

xo,

p.s. I had several plees...asking ....that I extend the eCourse savings.... I will keep the savings open for a few more days...... xo

p.s.s. I have yet to pick my word for 2014..... how bout you? I posted about it on FB ..... the conversation really helped.... thank you..... I think I'm getting close.... :)

I haven't come up with 14 things yet, but today I decided on one. More kitchen dance parties. Remembering to BE in my body and express joy through dance.

Kim, I've only now learned of your fourteen in 2014 list. I am going to make one.
Sending so much love you cannot hold it all and hoping so much joy and good health for you and yours that you will overfill and have to share! ox

Thanks for challenging me on this one kim...my first instinct was no more lists....but I am very happy with how this pushed me to revisit my word from last year. Happy 14!

I love the idea of the fourteen very much! Thank you very much for sharing them to us.

I had a similar idea with doing a list, but this one dosen't have so many Points and is still in my head:

1. 5 "crazy" things / Activities I usualy not doing, something which is challenging me.
2. Going out every week at least one day to create new Pictures
3. To reach out with SM, Homepage, Shop -> also a Challenge for me
4. Stopp doing things just to pleace anybody but to do what I love and make other People happy
5. Family, having more fun time

Now I will also add some of your fourteens, as they fit perfectly for me too:

6. BE.... soak up the quiet of home.... the beauty of being.... peacefulness.... health... everyday living....the life I love and long to get back to.... such a gift.....
7. continue letting go.... of things or People who put me down.....embrace reality..... b r e a t h e.....
8. send more snail mail.
9. Trust the process....give MORE......gratitude... ALWAYS

There are four left to think about it. :)

I wish you a wonderful 2014 with lots of fun, creativity!

Your list is wonderful, so many exciting things ahead for you in 2014. In turn exciting things for us :) Love the send more snail mail, always a good thing.

One thing on my 2014 list is to try to overcome my shyness by taking a public speaking course so I can give a presentation on some of my photography work. It's a simple thing for most people, but not me!
January 2, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterLynne
Quite an ambitious list of 14. I wish you all the best in the New Year and that 2014 turns out to be the best for you. I personally failed so miserably at my one word last year that I decided this year is no words, no rules. One day at a time, living and embracing each day as it comes.

Kim,

You simply amaze me with your approach to life, boundless creativity and generosity of time and talents. It astounds me how you deal with life's struggles yet continue to accomplish so much both professionally and personally. 2013 has been an incredibly challenging year for me so my 14 in 2014 list will require much thought. I was really hoping to start anew in 2014 but a family emergency on New Year's Eve has made the start of 2014 equally stressful. Thanks for providing me with the inspiration to identify and focus on those things that truly need to happen to make the year ahead one of growth and change.
Keep being such as wonderful example of someone who is living a balanced, fruitful, creative life!

Best Wishes to you and your family in 2014. I hope you accomplish all of the 14 items on your list.

Each new day is a fresh start. We sometimes feel that in a new year easier than we do each morning. Everyday this year my desire is to extend more grace to others and get my eyes off of myself. Secondly, I want to trust the Lord more. The rest of the "14" are wrapped up in those two. If I can focus on these, 2014 will be a great year regardless of whatever else may come my way.
January 2, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterSharon K
Kim your 14 list idea is genius! I think I'll give it a try as well. Thanks so much for the inspiration.

Kim, you're such an inspiration.
I guess my goal is to just be better, in every aspect, but especially where my photography is concerned.

A friend gave me a rock with the word dream carved into it. That's something I'll be meditating on in 2014. I'm at an age where I have most of what I wanted--When she gave it to me, my initial thought was :Eesh! I don't have any dreams (goals, hopes) anymore! What do I want? Who was it who said dreaming is one form of goal setting? Best wishes to you in the new year, Kim.
January 2, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterMichele at Sweet Leaf
Your list is awesome Kim. I love that your list breathes space. That's what I need too.

Don't know if I have 14 things on my list. Here are a few: - read more paper books - learn to listen to my true self - follow my intuition (and trust the process) - quiet times with my cats on the couch - warm meet ups with some IG friends - send more snail mail (yes!) - finding the spot in the country where I (& Eric) feel we belong...

Feels good to write this down.

Big hug to your Kim.

I still haven't completed a 14 list. I am 75 and thankful to be here after all my health issues. Along with John's well-being, I wish for my own health to remain stable in 2014.

Wow, I was reading my post from yesterday and somehow my fingers typed a wrong word. I wrote "wrath" instead of "warmth". I hope you will understand what I meant.
January 2, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterLaser
Great list, Kim. I did one as well . . . I have to admit that I do not always follow through but just writing things down can have the affect of making me feel more obligated to do what I say :) Happy New Year to you!

My list isn't as long as yours. My priorities involve practicing healthy habits, more travel, and expanding my photography skills. DH got my a Wacom tablet for Christmas, so I'm signing up for some training to learn how to do that right away! Best wishes to you in the new year, sweetie. May all your dreams come true!

Kim, this challenge is far better than "making resolutions". You are so inspirational…i'm excited to challenge myself and I've never felt like doing that before! xx

I think this will be another year of change. Change as I graduate from college and put my schooling to use. And I'm eager to see what that change will be.

Ah Kim...you are such an inspiration! I am still working on my 14 for 2014 but wanted to let you know that when I told some friends about your challenge they decided to jump on the band wagon! Though their creative directions are different than my own (none of them are photographers) they embraced your concept and by proxy, you light & joie de vivre. The lives you touch go so far beyond the scope of this "Cafe" !! I have chosen my word for the year and will share as the year fans out...and it occurred to me that perhaps your word should be 'acknowledge' to inspire you to acknowledge YOUR gifts and talents and strength as you always do for the collective 'us'...
January 2, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterJanet
You always inspire me and I truly love your work. I loved all "14" things on your list and it really makes one step back and look at yourself. I love to rescue animals.....I want to try to help more animals get homes, and keep so many from dying each day......I want to get people to go to shelters and give animals homes instead of buying them. I also give my work away by helping to take pictures of homeless animals to find them homes. Thank you again, Kim. Your strength and courage makes me feel like I can climb mountains. I am also a army spouse so I stay busy with that as well. Happy New Year!!!

Nourish is my word for 2014. Taking care of loved ones and myself- physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
January 2, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterMichelle
Kim... what an awesome Muse you are! Being a bit of a nature hermit, easing into a human social group has me a bit skittish. Finding you and your group has made it so much gentler! Thank you.... All!
Well, I wasn't going to do resolutions this year... more along the line of intentions, so the following appears as I type...

My word... "Available" (each day declare being 'available' to... (whatever that intention is for that day)

1 Expect and then accept (with gratitude) the miracles that Nature has yet to show me and share them with like-minded souls.
2 Lighten up in the 'shoulding' on myself!
3 Have some fun FINISHING! some unfinished projects (and I won't count them!)
4 Write a haiku as often as I can
5 Research and decide if I want to do a blog
6 Collect all the writing and sketches I've done in the margins of my go-to books and match them to my pictures
7 Write (and send) more cards and letters (snail mail)
8 Play with watercolors
9 Listen to and trust my instincts
10 Write and send positive testimonials, comments etc about people or groups who go above and beyond or are just nice!
11 Get Lightroom or AdobeCS6 (currently using an old Elements)
12 Play with some "stills" (studio type) photography
13 Take more Black and Whites
14 Breathe!!! and BE Present.

Wow, that went pretty fast... and it was fun so thanks for the prompt and best wishes to all for 2014
Blissings and Blessings Dawn

Kim, I admire your drive and motivation. I am still trying to pinpoint my passion.
I've spent the past several years doing my blog, taking photo classes, mostly yours. I've loved all of them and the results. Yet, again, I'm being yanked in another direction. A direction that has been patiently (?) waiting for me...I will never quit taking pictures and using photo shop. I love textures, paint, pencils etc. Locally, I started taking calligraphy classes from an artist here in my town. Got out of the schedule and want to start back-up and see where it takes me. She, Anne Binder, also does workshops where we get to play with paint, make paper, paste papers, books etc. Love. But, the one thing that I've been avoid doing, a love from 20-30 years ago. Abrasive glass etching. Way back when, I wantedto learn to carve glass, I was doing stained/leaded glass as a contractor. My blasting booth has been set-up and waiting for me now for three years! I am working on a little project to get me started.

Here is my list of 14 for 2014:

1) Play with my new 50mm f/1.4 Nikon lens. YES!! Got it for Christmas-I have a wonderful hubbie.
2) Start blasting glass. Maybe do some small stained glass projects.
3) Master Gardener certificate - if I get accepted
4) Redo patio garden into an herb garden
5) Look into going back to school
6 ) Establishing a Writing routine - Creative, Haiku
7) Do some more chain maille jewelry projects (made 8 for Christmas gifts and really enjoyed)
8) Decide if I want to continue my blog, get my own website or not
9) Continue going through my image archives and get some 'out there'
10) Get a new operating system so I can get Lightroom, install my Coral Draw upgrade, and re-install Photomatix...
11) Finish painting inside house
12) Work on an exercise program I can stick with!
13) Family...Friends
14) Focus...Be more in the moment...Relax...

These are not necessarily in order of importance...

I hope you and John are able to go home soon. 2013 sure gave you a rough time. You have done a wonderful job of learning from it and just hanging in there. I really admire you for your courage and honesty.
I pray that 2014 will be nicer. I hope 2014 continues with the blessings I've been given and have. But we can't predict the future and can only deal with whats before us, in this moment.

Happy New Year! And may God bless John and make him well. You are, as always, in my thoughts and prayers.
January 2, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterLaurie
This year, I decided I will NOT make any resolutions... except notice the wonder of every day.
I refuse to have a list and to strive every day to tick something out of it.
Instead, I'll just try to be aware of the marvel that is every new day that I'm alive, and all the little miracles that happen every day and that I usually let go unnoticed.
So I guess this is my 14 in 2014: one to fourteen,, all the same :)
Hugs

I haven't yet got 14 but top of my list is to sell my house then return to the UK and buy a house in Scotland. In the midst of all this I also want to improve my photography skills and catch up with my various classes!
January 2, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterKate Fortune
I love the idea of formalizing 14 items and guess I do in some way with my various lists so will work on this more, such inspiration you all are. Kim, been thinking of you tons, especially hoping John is better soon. In 2013, I found your site and took the Round Trip class, twice. Would love to get more into expanding these skills and becoming more comfortable with PSE 12 and round tripping between there and Lr 5. Take care, hugs --- Penny

Happy New Year, Kim! I love how you have managed to find joy and peace during this most challenging of years! I'm pondering 14 for 2014 as I sit here at my laptop. I have decided on my WORD, however. 2. Make the transition to full-time homemaker and first-time mama.
3. Create a warm, welcoming home for my husband and baby boy.
4. Renew my commitment to healthy diet and regular exercise.

9. Keep up with a Project Life album for baby boy's first year.
10. Do better about taking pictures of people I love (including myself) and the things we do.
11. Decide what to do with my blogs and online presence.

I love this idea of drawing up a list, so I started writing and rewriting my fourteen for 2014-list ... until I read Carol Edan's post here above. I could copy her list .... but then ... I opened the link to her blog .. wauw, something happened inside and I realised ... I just have to start PAINTING !! I finally should get over that huge hurden that keeps me from painting!!

So on my modest list for 2014:

1. Start painting and the rest will follow!!!

Thank you Kim ... and Carol!!

Kim thank you for the post, writing of any kind are not easy for me but I did my best to write a true list of what I wold like to get done in 14 on 2014. I did think it was easier to make a list like this (which surprised me). Guess it is the short sentences that make it easier to put down your feelings about what you would like to see happen. We do tend or at least I do tend to put things on the back burner or mind if I don't write down. So thank you for bringing this to my attention and I feel like I might be able to accomplish my goals for the new year.

1. Back to college for a Master of Arts in Teaching
2. Fully rehab my torn shoulder
3. Run a half marathon in under 2.5 hours
4. Create create create!!

Four seems about right!

Happy new year, Kim. I hope you are staying warm in all your storms and power outages. This year I'm actually abandoning lists altogether. It just feels right for me to take it gently at the moment, keeping doing what I love and (hopefully) growing steadily and organically. Part of me feels that this might be a giant cop out, but I guess I'll find out! My word for the year is story - so we'll see how that unfolds too. Thank you for all the inspiration this year and looking forward to more in 2014. Very best wishes to you and your family and prayers for a year of healing for you all. Much love. x

Thrive is my One Little Word for 2014, so here are 14 areas to thrive in: eat Paleo food, sleep at least 8 hrs., strength train, do yoga at least twice a week, live ACIM's teachings, photograph things that interest me, travel someplace new, have our lake home ready for guests to enjoy, relax at our lake home, declutter my home, create an environment of peace and beauty in my home, infuse my relationships with love and forgiveness, help my students improve their homework/study methods, and develop a wardrobe filled with only things I love. Groovy!
