Lightroom ~ You Gotta Love It :)

Said with a smile.....

Hello lovelies,

Perhaps you may have heard.... I have a new class starting in September... called Round Trip: from Lightroom to Photoshop and back again..... I'm beyond excited about this!!

I've had some questions..... and wanted to address them here today. Keep in mind these are my personal opinions.... You ultimately have to make a decision based on your needs, wants and workflow. :)

  • What is Lightroom?
  • Do I need Lightroom 4? What's new?
  • Why do I need Lightroom?
  • Will it work with Elements? What about photoshop?

In today's post I want to share my thoughts on these questions.....

What is lightroom?

Lightroom is an incredibly jam-packed program. It's a photographer's dream....once you 'get it'... It's been life changing for me. It's an incredible file organization system...but it's much more than that too. It gives you the power to work quickly and fluidly.... with super quick syncing options allowing you to apply your settings to a range of similar photos. It allows you to create presets and use them over and over...accomplishing several steps with one click. It's pure awesomeness. And the best part works hand in hand with photoshop and photoshop elements.

Do I need Lightroom 4?

Need is a strong word.......but it's pretty darn fab.

Lightroom 4 is awesome. It is designed for compatiblity with the new versions of Elements and CS. If you are unsure about compatiblity check with Adobe support.

Another exciting thing about Lightroom 4 is the price!! Oh my gosh.... it's now just $149 (even less on Amazon) for the full version and only $79 for the upgrade from earlier LR..... I believe the upgrade isworth the price if you can swing it!! Remember you can try it for 30 days... FREE. Be sure it's compatible with your system before you buy it though.... check the adobe site for details.

What's New in LR 4?

There are several develop improvements, local adjustment enhancements, a pumped up curves panel, a crazy cool soft-proofing feature for output or export..... that are really, truly fabulous...along with some fabulous new and exciting additions. Adobe has really outdone themselves!! And oh my gosh... if you shoot video... LR now supports most camera video formats. You can trim, develop and export your videos right in LR. So cool. And oh's all completely non-destructive. And oh my gosh, you can quickly and easily email your photos with just a click or 2 directly from Lightroom. It's just totally crazy awesome!

Oh and for all the RadLab users.... the latest RL update allows you to use RadLab right directly within Lightroom.....

Oh my, there's so much... but I will leave you with that... It's just crazy cool.

Why do I need Lightroom?

Power, speed, convenience and awesome organizational possibilities...... all in one. The ability to make the prettiest of pictures.... with just a few clicks. Preset options for almost everything you do over and over in your image processing workflow.... It's just so very good. Honestly it's mind-blowing. Once you wrap your head around the program.... you will not look back. The best works like a dream with photoshop.... and for me...that's just BEYOND awesome!

Will it work with Elements? What about photoshop?

Lightroom is compatible with Elements and Photoshop CS. It works together is such a smooth and fluid way. It's going to blow your mind!! Seriously... 'sigh'....

As you can see I'm uber excited about Lightroom!!

If you have further questions please leave them in the comments and I will do my bestest to answer them!

I took your PSE course about a year ago and it was life changing for me. About 3 months ago I purchased LR4. I have been as you say flipping from PSE to LR and back and forth for editing pics. Luv, luv, luv the two programs. I have signed up for your course because I know I have only scratched the surface of the program and love the way you teach your online courses! So looking forward to it! The timing could not have been more perfect! Yahoo!
