Sunday - Missing my Boy and an Update

Café Postal - St. Boniface...Winnipeg

I'm back in the city with John. He has a few days 'pass' from the hospital. Yay!

We moved to a new space this week and it's absolutely beautiful... inside and all around. There's beauty everywhere you look. It's unreal.

So grateful.....

I'm thankful to have a lovely place to stay while we are here.... but oh my... I'm missing Ben so much. I took several photos of him this past week while I was home.....He's such a poser.

Should I admit to cycling through them one after the other...over and over....for several minutes at a time? Hmmmm....

Ben is such a comfort...always there.... gentle...loving...  faithful.

He's well looked after while we are here... Thanks to my parents and Brett.... but's all so topsy turvy. I long for our quiet simple life together.

Anyhow, I thought I'd pop in with an update on John.....

taken here yesterday afternoon... just a short walk from our new 'home'....

He is scheduled to begin his fourth and final cycle of chemo at the end of this week. After that he will be home for a month or 2.... maybe more...maybe less.....  he will then be readmitted for a bone marrow transplant. We are thankful to say his brother, Rick, is a match. This is a huge blessing.....a sibling is the best and safest donor option. Thanking God!

John has progressively digressed..... He's tired and weak..... there are so many miserable side effects to the treatment. But he's hanging on... one day at a time. This week's 'pass' has been a lovely distraction.... So nice to be free from his 4 walls at the hospital. Hopefully it'll give him the boost he needs for this final stretch....

Thank you again to each of you that has written.... sent mail.... left comments.... So much. I'm afraid I may never get caught up on my inbox. I'm sorry if you have written and I have not replied. This whole thing is such a juggling act.....

Please know that I have read every single message....and appreciate all your caring and sharing notes.... In fact there's many that I've read and reread..... finding strength in your thoughtful words... Such a gift.

And so... I say... thank you from the bottom of my heart....

Friends.....  we hear so much about the evil in this world...
but truly... it's filled to the rim with so many beautiful...kind, loving...generous souls.....

Today.... let's celebrate that love.......

with gratitude...always.

Congratulations on the sibling match!!! That is such a blessing. We were not that lucky, which is why my husband continues in maintenance chemo and we hope for no relapse. Enjoy your time together and still sending you lots of hugs,

So, so happy you have a new place to enjoy along with so much beauty, and help strengthen you during this last session! How very blessed for John and his broth to have matching marrow, and a willing brother too! Thank you so much for taking time to update us, and my prayers and thoughts will continue going out this week. One day at a time....

So happy to hear John was 'sprung' for good behavior. Hopefully it will strengthen him. And I know the time at home will do him worlds of good! So grateful about the bone marrow match. I know you're seeing what John is made of these days and that even after all your years with him, you never cease to be amazed at the person he is. So glad you have one another to help one another along in this huge life challenge.

I pray for you both. Kim, you are such a sweet heart and a giving person. John is lucky to have you by his side. What John is going through is heart wrenching! My prayers are with him as he finishes the chemo and, oh my God!, bone marrow transplant. God bless his brother ... you, John, your whole family for what you are going through.
Keep your spirits up, keep doing what you love, while taking care of your Love.

Kim, I have not been visiting blogs for so long that I am obviously waaay behind on this ... I am so very sorry to learn about John. I can understand how this completely turns your life inside out. Please know that, although I'm learning of this so far along, I sincerely am wishing John and all of you -- his family and friends -- peace, recovery, and a huge dose of hope and positivity.

The second picture of Ben is a*m*a*z*i*n*g, Kim! I'm sure it gives you comfort. SO thankful that you are seeing the blessings through the pain and uncertainty. I pray that you and John can feel God's arms around you, even if, right now, you only recognize those arms as those of your friends and family. My prayers are with you both.

So glad to hear that John is able to get out and about for a few days. I'm sure that's doing him - and you - a world of good.

Love the shots of Saint B! I know you'd rather be at home, but Saint B isn't a bad place to be. I like to go to the Forks, then walk over the Esplanade to the Cathedral - such a quiet, pretty place. Nice cafes over there, too!

Speaking of nice places: I don't know if you've had a chance to get out to Assiniboine Park, but the English Garden is spectacular. (You'll definitely need your camera!)

Take care.

You are both outstanding people - it sad that good people have to have awful things to go through but your faith in God and your love for another will see you through -- lovely photos they have a touching calmness to them -- be calm and carry on- I heard that a few years back -- but remember you are never alone God bless you with what you stand in need of..

July 23, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterKrsiteen glad to get your update. You, John and your family are always in my thoughts and prayers. I'm so glad John will begin the last treatment week soon, and his brother is a match~ wonderful news! As always, I love the photos of dear Ben. Remember to take care of yourself, too. xo

Kim, do you mind if I copy the picture of John, as he looks beyond in meditation or so it seems to me. I would like to post it in the staff room at work (Rivers Health Centre). Think of John so often as do other staff members, Jim D tries hard to keep us up to date. Now I find I also read your blog.
