mouse over to see the original - scroll down to read the recipe and download the preset

Dear friends,

Welcome to another Free & Easy Texture Tuesday. Thanks for stopping by....and sharing your beautiful textured art!

The ongoing theme - Free & Easy ......

I'm so grateful you all continue to pop by and link up your beautiful textured photos...... THANK YOU.

Lately

It's official..... I wanna go home. It's been almost 8 months ..... I'm ready.... I want my life back....

I'm guessing it's a finish line thing..... so close...yet it seems so far...
Will we make it? It's beginning to feel like the 3rd floor treadmill.... that I've come to despise.
Painful...slow.....endless.....forever.....Ya know?

I long for....

Ben....Brett.......my studio... my desk........ our tiny town....zips to the post office.... quiet streets.... winter walks on 'our' trail......a real kitchen... cozy couch....our bedroom.... big windows... the light...oh YES... the light...... my parents...familiar faces.......pretty things, perfect paper...printers.. pens... props.... all of it!

The latest....on John.

The oncologists are pleased with John's progress...  so far so good... the transplant is a success..... the docs are pleased. John's b/p and heart issues are a little up in the air....he's also been diagnosed with Salt Wasting Syndrome (effects of the chemo)...But these things are all treatable.....  We see the kidney doc on the 21st... After that we should be good to pack up and head home...... only a few weeks from now..... I'm a bit nervous to say it out loud...fear of a set back... But I know... it will be...what it will be.... 2 weeks...3... a month...we will make it....one step then 2....

::

I'm so thankful for this space....for all of you....friends that stop by..... gather...connect..... share... kindred spirits...near and far. It's difficult to express .....Please know how much I appreciate YOU!!  I can't imagine this past 8 months... (heck... past several years) without the support of this community....

Thank you all .... for...checking in.... seeing us through... listening.......sticking it out.

My up top image recipe (Lightroom preset download below)

Lightroom

I did a quick tone , then applied this preset (truegrit a fav)..... Feel free to download it and give it a go.

mouse over to see the before

Hello friends,

How are you? Happy Sunday. I hope you had a good weekend. Anything exciting going on in your world? Do tell... I love hearing what's new with all of you!

Today, I have a little start to finish video for my uptop photo to share.. along with a Lightroom overview video.

My tulip photo was layered with 3 different textures from the Cloth & Paper Collection. In the video below I will walk you through the photoshop edit.

In other news.... my Round Trip class begins this Tuesday. This may be the last session before fall. Spring is quite busy, so I'm not sure if I will run another session til August/September. Anyhow, I've had many people curious about the program. Today's Lightroom video gives you a basic overview of the workflow from camera to lightroom to photoshop, along with a quick tour of the Lightroom interface.

Two New Textures and a Few Updates

mouse over to see the original

Hello friends...happy Sunday.... It's a long weekend here in Canada... not sure about the rest of the beautiful world? yes? no?... My boys are all enjoying the fact that they have an extra long weekend.....Me, personally.... well, I find long weekends cut my 'work' week up....  which rarely ever feels like work... So I'm not nearly as excited about the holiday.... 'smile'.... But it's all good!!

So, I have several tidbits for you today.......

First, your new textures! I used both on my image up top..... Check out the magazine (Somerset Life)... I've booked an hour with myself on the front porch to soak it up after I take Ben out... woo hoo!

Anyhow, here's today's lovelies...  they have great chalky qualities... which I really like in a texture.

Texture Lovin' Listers... the download link is coming your way. Not on the list, click HERE to sign up and start receiving freebies right away.

Here's my recipe for the photo above.

Opened the image in Lightroom.... tweaked the exposure, and reduced the saturation a little. Added a little tone curve bump...then headed right into photoshop to work with texture and type..... I added a layer of today's 'printed' at soft light 75% opacity and then a layer of 'way' at soft light 100%. Finally I added the quote.... The font is Afta Serif.

As promised I must announce the give away winner of, The Natural Home.....

Drum roll please....  Congrats to Sarah. Please send me a note so I can get you all hooked up with the book.

{Texture Tuesday} Another Free & Easy eDition

mouse over to see the before

We're back with another Texture Tuesday!

This week... we're talking 'free & easy'! Anything goes....

This week's TT challenge is as follows:

  • As always, your image must contain one layer of any of my textures. That's it!

....

Allow me to introduce to you, my sweet and completely precious teapot...

Isnt's she dreamy? She came with 2 sweet little matching mugs.... I adore the dimples.... and the wire handle....truly.. just dreamy.

I have the photoshop recipe to share.

  • Layer 1 - Background Image
  • Layer 2 - I converted the image to black and white, using RadLab..... (gotta love the radLab)
  • Layer 3 - I added one layer of this week's 'UggLove' at soft light 28% opacity. Added a layer mask and removed the texture from the teapot.
  • Layer 4 - Photo filter adjustment layer (sepia) at 100% opacity.
  • Layer 5 - Duplicate of Layer 4
  • Layer 6 - Added the text 'tea is a cup of life' in black multiply 100%.
  • Layer 7 - Added a layer of last week's bonus, 'Thursday'...Oh my gosh I love it! At soft light 100% opacity. Added a layer mask and removed the texture from the teapot.

If you read my Sunday post I mentioned a little tutorial. I'm afraid I ran out of time today/tonight... I had to take Brett to the Walk-In. He cut his hand at work.... anyhow, 4 stitches later...all is well... But it threw Mama's schedule for a loop! Ummm, when do they become independent? Or is that a myth?

'smile'.....

I will post a tutorial later this week!! I promise! Stay Tune....

Okie doke, before we get to linking up.... let's talk next week's TT theme.

Tuesday, September 27th TT Challenge Details:

Let's go with a theme! Hmmm, spin, spin... let me think....
How about LOVE! Just let your imagination go ....

There's just so much to love about LOVE!

So to clarify.... your image must contain one layer of any of my textures...and in some way be about LOVE.

Let's get this party started!!

Shall we?

xxo,

p.s.

We're sharing our inspiring 'corners' at the i-Studio... come on over and say hi.... We'd love to see you!

p.s.s.

Registration for the Art of Texture - Secrets Revealed class is open. Click HERE to get the details.

p.p.s.s.

The story behind the Ugg Love texture name .... is.... pretty simple actually.

Nope I didn't use the soles to make the texture.

But I did buy a new pair of Uggs yesterday....and while I was making the UggLove texture, Bryce's girlfriend and I talked for at least 20 minutes about our love of Uggs. Bryce could not believe we could talk that long about a pair of 'Ugg' ly boots.
