Here we are a full week into April.... Oh my... how times flies....

I'm gearing up for some exciting stuff around here.... a few BIG announcements coming soon...... I'm close to bursting......

In the meantime... I'm celebrating .. For the love of... perfectly imperfect......

I love that this old bottle shows the reflections from our dining room walls (picture frames, so perfectly imperfect.....

Today's Recipe - Both Images

Processed in LR.

I darkened the shadows, bumped down the blacks. I added a tone curve to accentuate the highlights and moody down the shadows. I desaturated the orange in the HSL panel. Finally, I added a warm split tone in both the shadows and highlights.

Into Photoshop to add some texture.

I added a layer of Waterfront 7 (inverted) set to screen blend mode at 47% opacity...masking it off the bottle and rose.

Then the type.....

and....That was that.... : )

Here is the magic version of waterfront 7.

Click here to download waterfront7 - magic eDition - if you'd like to give this technique a go.

Test Kitchen members pop over to the Kitchen for a quick magic texture-making tutorial.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for making time in your life to show your work and share your work process. Your description of how you edit your photograph is so helpful and I will try to learn alongside you. I am always excited to hear your news - not because the news may be big or wonderful, though that is so nice - but because it means that you are continuing to evolve as an artist and teacher - and that is a joy to see! Embracing imperfection today - thanks to you.

Oh Kim, I just want to say a big thank you to you. Your images and words are so calming to me in a busy world. I enter your webspace and my mind drifts off, and I escape to a place where I wish I could spend more time. I'm one of those usually quiet self-pacers, dipping in as time permits. Thank you so much for all your time you devote to inspiring the likes of me and bring out my little bit creativity.

Love your textures. Unlike lots of textures out there yours are subtle and don't try and take over the image, just adding depth and atmosphere. :-) Many thanks for all the freebies.

Even on days when I can't seem to get anything productive done, I can always watch a video or two of yours. You're always so clear and positive, and set me instantly in the right direction. Thank you for all your creativity and generosity!

I would be thrilled to win a spot in your class! Your promotional video is awesome. I want to take Xanthe's time capsule class but I don't use a mac and I need instruction in using video editing software for a pc. Premier pro I would guess would be the way to go. I think though you can do video in Lightroom too. (any chance that's an upcoming class...???)
