{Texture Tuesday} 'It's the Little Things' eDition

mouse over to see the original image. textured with finale from the studio collection

This week theme....

'it's the little things.'......

I can not wait to see your interpretations!!

Before we get to sharing, do you have time for another story? It's short and 'sweet'.....

You all have heard me talk about Winners (Canada's version of TJ Max).....  You know I love it!!

On Saturday we took a quick zip into town. I just had to pop into Winners!

I walked in, headed straight to my favorite section... the mug and dish aisle...and there, as if waiting for me... sat this GORGEOUS Keep Calm Mug...  Oh my..... j'adore!! (as my friend Denise said)...

Of course I grabbed it up quick....

and then I scanned the shelves looking for more... a little further over and down a few shelves...sat the same mug in black!

Grab...

Love......

Happy... happy... sigh....

With an extra little bounce in my step I checked out the rest of the store..... 2 beautiful mugs came home with me....

It was a good day!

It's the little things ....

like a cool mug, Ben's wagging tail, a sweet email, laundry done, perfect pen, a good book......

And speaking of good books... I'm listening to the audio version of The Help by Katherine Stockett!! It's beyond! Seriously...

You can listen in on a little snippet here.

The End..... of my story.....

Okie doke...Let's talk next week's theme.....

I thought it'd be fun to change things up! How 'bout a little contest.....

I'd like you all to help pick next week's TT theme!

Leave your TT Challenge idea in the comments below.

Winner get's a free 4 month Test Kitchen Membership, and The entire Studio Collection!

(sorry....no prize substitutions... if you are a TK member and/or you have the studio collection.... I'm afraid you will be playing just for fun or just for one...depening on the situtation. But, what's wrong with, just for fun? I say....play anyway.)

Check back here on Thursday....

Friday... at the latest...

to find out next week's TT theme...and of course... who the winner is.

Get creative....  think a little outside the box...  have some fun!

What do you say? Will you play?

Good luck!

Simply leave your TT theme/challenge idea in the comments below for a chance to win.

xxo,

p.s. I forgot to mention my recipe for this week's photo, I ran Nelly Nero's Modfather action, then added one layer of my finale texture from the Studio Collection at soft light blend mode (slightly desaturated at 66% opacity). That was it!! I love the Nelly Nero modfather action! You can find it here. Also, love the extra bit of grit and POP the texture added!

p.s.s. The Essentials eCourse begins on August 23rd. Are you interested in learning the ins, outs and in betweens of photoshop? I'd love to see you in class

I love how you captured just a little of that vintage typewriter! Love it!

For next week, how about the "Endearing eDition"?? (showing something that is close to your heart!)

I so need a mug like that today! *sigh*

For next week's TT challenge, how about an Unleashed eDition? =)

HI Kim. Great photo this week. I LOVE TJ Maxx and did not know there was a Canadian version. How fun! We do not have anything like it here in Brussels but when I am in London I always hit the TK Maxx (notice it is TK not TJ).

Since it is summer how about "picnic" theme? Cheers!
August 9, 2011 | Unregistered Commentercathy @ ma vie trouvee
I think it would be fun for the challenge to specify the blending mode to use - say color burn on 50% or more opacity.

I enjoy the recipe based challenges much more than the subject based prompts
August 9, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterHelena C
I suggest "generations". Your post today is super!
August 9, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterPat
What a lucky find! Beautiful composition Kim... the mug and your fantastic typewriter go together so nicely :)

How about "little (treasure) finds" for next week theme?
August 9, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterAnia
Here's a thought, "J'Adore" - a theme of things we love and adore.

I'm a huge TJ Maxx fan so can understand why you love the Canadian version so much, great finds on the mugs and I love the image you've done this week.

As for next week how about 'creativity' or 'wild' as a theme?

Have a great week.
August 9, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterKathryn Dyche Dechairo
I love your mug... too cute!

A theme for next week... a slice of summer. Thanks for the chance at a great giveaway.

August 9, 2011 | Unregistered Commenterlinda henderson
I love your mug!!! Textures are so good at making photos seem like they have a backstory, and my favorite images every week are the ones that have meaning to the photographer.... so how about "stories" for next week's challenge?
August 9, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterKathleen
Lovely mugs and processing, just great!
For the next week's theme, how about something oriental..?
August 9, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterNeringa
Beautiful, Kim. Such a cool find too.
I like some of the themes already here in the comments like the edible & picnic suggestions. I'll throw one in: roadside.
We road-tripped last week and the scenery was enough to take my breath away. I can't believe I didn't pull over and take a roadside pic !!
Happy day to you -- and thank you for all of the beautiful textures!
August 9, 2011 | Unregistered Commenterbella
I love Winners too! How about 'vivid summer colors' as we sit on the cusp of Fall?
August 9, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterBonnie
Ciao Kim, happy Tuesday! Our entry for today is ready... but we are having net problems... again! How frustrating!
We are using the 'puter at the library, but cannot update our blog from here, snif!
Well, at least we can read your blog. :) Love your new mug, we'd need that quote today, LOL!
What a generous offer, and how sweet of you to let your party-buddies ;D pick up a theme for next week! Awwww! :)
What a bout "All Things Bright and Beautiful"?
Have a fabulous day! *huggles*
August 9, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterKia and Zeno
I love that mug! I miss shopping at winners!! my challenge entry is A MOVIE.. pick any movie, your favorite movie, the photo just has to go along with the the title! you said to think out of the box.. right! how fun is that!
August 9, 2011 | Unregistered Commenterolivia
Theme suggestion: "This made me smile."

Well done on finding two great mugs. Did that "Make You Smile?"
August 9, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterLinda Deal
That mug is so you! Just perfect... How about dog days? Or cat days? Just because I have so many willing subjects... :)
August 9, 2011 | Unregistered Commenterkelly
Thank you the latest texture, it was fabulous. I'm thinking food (I always do:) we all have it so it is easy to shoot. This theme thinking out of the box, no cute blueberries.....
Have a nice week

Wow! So many great suggestions... how about "My View" - very open to interpretation! Thanks for another great TT, Kim!
August 9, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJune Scott
While I like the previous suggestion of a recipe challenge - don't know that I've done one of those - I also liked the "pink" challenge. So - I'd suggest another colour challenge. I'd pick blue, but really - any colour would work for me
August 9, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterAlison
love the coffee cup
August 9, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterTiaras & Tantrums
I came up with Two Fer Tuesday: Each photo must have at least two of Kim's textures in it. Or how about: In My Garden, where everyone shoots any kind of a shot of their garden or their favorite garden.
August 9, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJulie
Yummm. Sweet Treats is a great idea. We get to eat what we photograph.....
August 9, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJulie
For next week: something sweet, opposing ends, lines, dramatic, plain and simple, your favorite color, high key, circles. I have so many ideas!

Good luck picking just one from all the great ideas that have already been suggested. :)
August 9, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterAmy
For next week .. how about "black & white"?
August 9, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJillB
I have been jealous of your Winners store finds I did not realize that they are the same as TJ Max, look out TJ here I come. Love the mug. It is hard to think of a theme, I can see where it could be a struggle each week. My idea is "Pieces of Nature". I collect little bits of things on my walks that I use in little framed vignettes, things like moss or leaves or weeds just anything that is part of Nature.
August 9, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterPat Mark
Kim, love the photo. But totally get when you 'make' that find! Sweet!
Read The Help last year ... very good read! Can the movie be better? Doubt it!
August 9, 2011 | Unregistered Commentermissing moments
Challenge: How about the black & white edition. Any photo void of color.
August 9, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterMelaine
How about... Leaping Fearlessly eEdition

Let's all show each other how we Leap Fearlessly to conquer our challenges. We are all strong, brave women learning how to fly through our daily lives. Maybe we will bond together as a group as we get to know each other on a more personal level.
August 9, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterThe Mudmom
Great mug! Because it's been so hot for many of us, what about "Seeing Double"? It could be interpreted many different ways!
August 9, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJillsy Girl
Kim, you've done some wonderful shopping again! So much inspiration! For next week: Love.
August 9, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterMarianne
How about "summer memories" for a theme? I know we're still in the middle of summer . . . but we've all had a few summertimes to draw our inspiration from!
August 9, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterMicki
I say we get dirty. I'd love to see grungy photos!
August 9, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterBrandi
Awww....I love that you share your goodies with us. unexpected treasures are the best.
For next weeks TT....I say something that is homemade!
August 9, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterKelly
Wonderful anecdote about your shopping adventure and lovely photo to showcase your "find" :)

I have 4 theme ideas for next week's challenge:

1) Let FREEDOM Ring
2) Count Your Many BLESSINGS, Name Them One-by-One
3) CELEBRATE Good Times - C'mon!
4) Somewhere Over the RAINBOW (open to interpretation)

Thanks again for sharing your creativity and inspirations with us -- I hope you and your blog will be here "forever!"

Hugs from Alaska - kimB

I want a mug like yours!! love it :) two themes suggestions: 'Against the Light' or 'Best Part of Your Day'...
August 9, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterAna Eugenio
Since it's the little things that make us smile, how about a macro/close up edition? You don't have to use a macro lens, although you can.... just get up close and personal... investigate "the little things."

Your posts always make me smile :)

Headstones??
August 9, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterDebi
Hi. I would like to clarify the headstones idea. We have had so many casualties here in the US from the war that I thought we could come up with some ideas about headstones? Not to be morbid but to honor our dead loved ones......
August 9, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterDebi
I love the colours in your photo! Thank you for the wonderful and fun textures. For next week's challenge how about the elements - earth, air, fire, water and metal? Let the participant pick the element.
