Today's Image

Oh dear... can you believe another.... dried rose? I'm thinking there's a series in the making.... I just can't help myself.... They simply keep callng me.....

Perhaps it all comes back to Wabi-Sabi.... This discovery has inspired me so....I can't begin to explain.... But maybe, I don't have to...I'm thinking many of you feel the same way.

Today's Simple Recipe

First I love shooting into the light....I have a little dressing table right in front of the bedroom window, the linen-ish curtains filter the light just right.... You gotta play a bit with your settings to get the right exposure for back lit photos....but once you get it right...dreamy stuff can happen....

Processed in LR.

I applied an auto tone, and then applied my kk_melancholy preset. This preset combines subtle desaturation......a boost of clarity.....a tone curve for the faded film effect......and finally a gentle lavender split tone in the shadows.....

I used the adjustment brush to lighten the rose petals and bump up the clarity.

then....Into Photoshop to add a touch of texture

a layer of Waterfront 1 at soft light blend mode, 100% opacity... Next a layer of Waterfront 7 at Multiply 41% opacity. I masked the texture off the rose, the fallen petals and vessel.

Finally the type.........That was that.... : )

Oh, yes, definitely a series of dried roses! I was looking at my wilting tulips today, wondering whether it was time to throw them out ... but decided that they were still beautiful.
Loving the wabi sabi theme!

Kim, Thank you for the textures! Love the rose picture - what a beautiful series of pictures you have created with this simple theme. Your rose picture would make such a beautiful photo for a bedroom - peaceful and calm. Oh, and the shot of the pear from above - such a very thoughtful shot - almost abstract. Beautiful pictures, beautiful you.

And your plate in the IG photo is so gorgeous! Have a wonderful day, Kim. :)

It's so good to be back behind the lens. Long time away taking care of it's time for I'll be seeing y'all in S2F and BS52. I had to give myself a REASON to get back in the saddle...there is so much to photograph both inside and outside my studio. In a little over 2 weeks I'll have my first cataract surgery and my surgeon says I won't believe how much more I'm going to be enjoying the colors that surround me. He was enthusiastic because I'm an artist...I didn't realize that I'd lost so much color sensation because the world is so beautiful even now. If it gets much more colorful I'm going to need some heavy duty shades...LOL So...until class time...keep snappin' :)

I am always inspired by your images and I SWEAR, I'm going to paint one of my rooms WHITE! LOL Am thinking of painting my dd's old room, which I now use when I babysit my granddaughter, white. I do alot of my indoor shooting in that room anyway because of the light, so I'm thinking it just may be a good plan.

Oh, I know how you feel! Dried roses are so addictingly beautiful. I have three on my desk that keep distracting me. :-) Your's are lovely and such inspiration to the rest of us.

Lovely images.

KIM, I love the way your soft textures affect the lighting in my pictures. This is simple, you really can't see the
texture, but it has drastically softened and changed the light and contrast. Thank you so much.
